The Nicaragua Solidarity Campaign Action Group has expressed its deep concern about the recent Global Witness report ‘Defenders of the Earth, global killings of land and environmental defenders in 2016’ . Whilst this is a much needed publication in many ways, the section on Nicaragua makes sweeping generalisations based on flawed, very incomplete evidence from limited sources and then uses this as evidence that ‘Nicaragua has overtaken Honduras as the world’s most dangerous place for activists per capita.’
